Koolhaas HouseLife by Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine
11/07/2009
In 2008, Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine decided to document the daily life in one of the masterpieces of contemporary architecture: the House in Bordeaux designed in 1998 by Rem Koolhaas / OMA. And they decided to do so in a rather provocative manner, by following the stories and daily chores of Guadalupe Acedo, the home's housekeeper, and of the other people who look after the building. Unlike most movies about architecture, this feature focuses less on explaining the building and its virtuosity than on letting the viewer enter into the daily intimacy of an architectural icon.
The screening of Koolhaas Houselife is scheduled for Saturday July 11 at 10:30 pm, and it will be anticipated by a conversation among Roberto Zancan, Axel Soxa and Gabriele Mastrigli on the film.
Please visit the website for the detailed program and for the schedules of the videos.
VISIONS FOR FLORENCE is a participative event curated by Marco Brizzi and Gianni Sinni. An event involving the new Municipality of Florence together with all creative minds interested in offering and sharing visions for the city.
Within the forum, presentation of the magazine "FFF" directed by Gianni Sinni, dedicated to the visions for Florence.
The forum is preceeded at 6:00 pm by Moonlight (2003), an audiovideo performance by Daniele Lombardi, dedicated to the city of Florence (Daniele Lombardi, piano; Art Media Studio Firenze, video).
This year, a special program complements the video contest. For the whole duration of the festival, the public can watch the screening of works by 3 renowned contemporary architects, who in different ways demonstrated peculiar and fertile employment of video.
With THE VIEW MASTERS, the BEYOND MEDIA festival is happy to offer its audience a special occasion for watching a series of video works by MVRDV, UNStudio and Zaha Hadid Architects, selected by Image ARCHIVE for the quality and inventiveness of their video productions.
BEYOND MEDIA pays attention to the children, and it does so by starting a cooperation with La Bottega dei Ragazzi of the Istituto degli Innocentiin Florence and ¿QUÉ ES ARQUITECTURA? in Barcelona, two important institutions that organize creative workshops for children.
PRIME VISIONS will offer 2 workshops which are both aimed at allowing children to understand arts, architecture and urban space in a fun way: "SER PIPPO ED IL QUADRATO MAGICO", curated by La Bottega dei Ragazzi, e "¿Què és Arquitectura?", curated by Jorge Raedó and Eva Serrats, for the first time in Italy.
A new occasion, especially conceived for all those (but not only for them) who were not able to participate with videos or in other forms to the ninth edition of BEYOND MEDIA!
We would like to express the power and the complexity of the theme VISIONS and we hope to collect the most convincing, extraordinary, amazing architectural visions worldwide. On this purpose, we thought to invite all interested architects to provide us with their vision (it might be an image or a sentence). It will be part of the video installation made by Squint/Opera that will be introducing the public to the festival at the entrance of the Stazione Leopolda in Florence.
All architects interested in having their vision be part of this installation, are invited to provide us with a jpg file (at least 1300 x 800 pixels) and the exact name (yourname_projectname) sending it by email to myvision@beyondmedia.it. Deadline for receiving your vision is June 20, 2009.
UNDERTONE VISIONS: WORKSHOP FOR THE DIGITAL PRODUCTION OF VIDEOS
12/06/2009
IN/ARCH, National Institute of Architecture (master "the video and architectural communication"), in collaboration with BEYOND MEDIA, presents UNDERTONE VISIONS: workshop for the digital production of videos.
In order to celebrate the theme of the ninth edition of the festival, which this year is dedicated to VISIONS and to a reflection on the representation of the project, the workshop aims at exploring a renewed ability to understand reality so as to change the customary procedures by which we design and represent architecture. This is made possible by the intertwining of the different approached that graphic design, photography, illustration, music have.
The workshop will take place July 1-3, 2009 at IN/ARCH, via Crescenzio 16 in Rome. It is intended for students, architects, designers, and video makers who are interested in contemporary visual languages and in the new digital media. Participants are required to have a laptop with Abobe Suite CS4 installed.

OVER 80 GREAT ARCHITECTURE VIDEOS!
05/06/2009
The 80 videos that were selected, out of over 600 submissions from 18 different countries, will provide 18 hours of viewing for the whole duration of the festival!
In selecting the videos we especially favored the ones which, besides their high quality, could also describe a variety and heterogeneity of points of views on architecture which VISIONS will give evidence to.
This year special emphasis will also be given to a series of medium- and full-length films that will be screened in the evenings.

The deadline for submitting videos for the 2009 edition of BEYOND MEDIA was February 16, 2009. We kindly ask you to please keep sending us your videos, which will be included in the Image ARCHIVEwww.image-web.org/archive and be part of the submissions for the next edition of BEYOND MEDIA.
We would like to remind you that the call for entries is aimed to authors of videos with an architectural content, and will lead to the selection of the best and most recent works by architects, artists, creatives, and students. It is possible to submit videos of various kinds: for example, conceptual, interpretational, documentary and advertising works.
The festival has been observing since 1997 the intense relations which exist between architecture and the media, and has always given to videos a significant role as part of its program. In the course of the years, it presented works by the most important protagonists of contemporary architecture.
Given the high number of submissions for the selection of videos for VISIONS, the ninth edition of the BEYOND MEDIA festival, we decided to extend the deadline of the call for entries by a couple of weeks.

We are happy to announce the call for video entries for the ninth edition of BEYOND MEDIA, international festival of architecture and media.
The festival, devoted to the most advanced visualizations in architecture and to the debate on the relationships between the project and the media of communication, will take place at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, Italy, July 9-17, 2009. Organized by Image www.image-web.org, and curated by Marco Brizzi, BEYOND MEDIA has been constantly observing, since 1997, the development of the systems of communication in the field of architecture by evaluating their impact on contemporary architectural production and by promoting quality and research in the advance of communication media for design projects.
The theme for the 9th edition of BEYOND MEDIA is VISIONS. It seems that, in the last few years, contemporary architects have lost their ability to pursue grand visions and to construct a broad outlook that engages complex transformations of the built environment. They are unable to construct thoughts and a conscience beyond that which is usual, empirical, and visible. The massive production and consumption of architectural images has resulted in a greater proximity to design issues by the general public. But at the same time, images alter the way people conceive of architecture, and they affect the ability and the opportunity to generate visions, and hence theories, that are deeply rooted in our time and, at the same time, receptive to new, possible scenarios.
On this website you will find the call for submissions. Deadline is January 31, 2009.
